To a certain extent, India still remains a conservative country, where drinking and open mingling between the sexes are frowned upon by certain sections of society.  However, increasing affluence and a growing community of young, well paid professionals have led to a shift in thinking to a more liberal mode.  Certain Indian cities and nightlife venues have a very open mind about guests enjoying their alcoholic beverages.  "One drink too many" is not a phrase that bartenders throughout India are allowed to use.  Feel free to mix and mingle with India's trendiest crowd of young professionals as if you were in New York or Hollywood.  A word of caution though – you may not have too many partying options if you want to hit the town solo.  Most clubs prefer their guests to arrive in pairs for the full partying experience.

No matter what part of India you are in, you will not be able to claim that you have experienced everything that India has to offer until you go see a Bollywood film at the local art-deco cinema. Going to the movies is a typically Indian way of ending the day. Bollywood films are slowly gaining popularity across the globe, yet only a few Westerners can actually claim to have watched an authentic Bollywood film.  Prepare to be transported to a different world where the men burst into song and the women burst into tears with alarming frequency!  Not to be missed!  Be liberal with the catcalls and the boos! If possible, visit with a local who can explain the on-screen goings-on to you.
