Shortages in affordable health care are driving dental patients overseas, where bedside manners, optimal technology solutions, and rock-bottom prices await.  In addition to the low cost and high quality of highly sought after dental procedures like laser teeth whitening, patients find short lines and top quality in places like Turkey, one of Europe’s top dental tourism destinations.

Hungary's historical legacy yields an unparalleled collection of architectural treasures and must-see's for any medical tourist.  Its long and eventful history includes the grandeur of European monarchy, the flash of the Ottomans, and the intrigue of Communism.  Assuming your doctor says it's okay to travel and sightsee, be sure to block sufficient time in your itinerary to see the sights and sounds of Hungary.

Most of the "must-sees" are located in Budapest, which is enjoying a revival as it attempts to replace Prague as the star of the former Soviet bloc.  But it’s not just the capital city that has plenty of things to do and see. The mighty Danube river beckons, and the quaint little villages that lie just a couple of hours outside of Budapest make for a memorable medical tourism vacation.

Budapest

St. Stephen’s Basilica is second only to St. Peters of Rome in size. Built to accommodate 7,000 worshippers, the Basilica also displays the mummified hand of the saint himself. The Great Synagogue is a large Moorish Byzantine structure which was renovated and inaugurated at the edge of the old Ghetto.  Not all the buildings on Castle Hill have been restored after their war damage, but you can still see some splendid sights from the past – Turkish tombstones, and remains of the Dominican monastery.  The Hungarian State Opera House has been described as one the most beautiful opera buildings in the world, and Fisherman Bastion, located behind Matyas Church and overlooking the Danube, provides the most spectacular photo opportunities in all of Budapest.

Szentendre and Keszthely

Just outside Budapest are some quaint attractions worth visiting.  If you’re in town for quick medical procedures like non-invasive cosmetic procedures or dental tourism, then it’s unlikely you will be staying for long, and it makes no sense to travel all over the country.  Szentendre is an artists’ colony just two hours from the capital and draws huge numbers of visitors with its numerous galleries and museums. Around 125 miles from Budapest is Keszthely, a little town with terrific weather and picturesque landscapes. There is a carriage museum and a puppet museum.  Nearby is the town of Heviz with its famed underwater hot thermal springs.

Whether you're a nature lover, architect guru, history buff, or art aficionado, Hungary has something to offer.  The only real obstacles are time and distance.  Be sure to budget enough travel flexibility in your itinerary to soak up all of these amazing sites.
