  • Turkey Becoming Synonymous with Saving Money

Shortages in affordable health care are driving dental patients overseas, where bedside manners, optimal technology solutions, and rock-bottom prices await.  In addition to the low cost and high quality of highly sought after dental procedures like laser teeth whitening, patients find short lines and top quality in places like Turkey, one of Europe’s top dental tourism destinations.

Spas

Cheap Hotels

As with everything else that became cheaper when Argentina’s economy collapsed, Buenos Aires’ spa services became infinitely more affordable for the average vacationer starting in 2002. Most upscale hotels have included spas that offer everything from facials to yoga classes, but make sure to choose one that doesn’t charge American prices. It seems a bit silly to visit a medical tourism destination only to pay the same fancy prices to soak in a hot spring that you would back home. Most of the five star properties that offer spa services are located in the Puerto Madro, Monserrat, and Recoleta neighborhoods.

Resorts

While there’s more than enough for the medical tourism visitor to see and do in Buenos Aires, just outside this bustling metropolis are other hidden gems waiting to be discovered. The city of La Plata, capital of the Buenos Aires Province, has some excellent prehistoric museums and holiday resorts. About 20 km northwest of Buenos Aires lies the charmingly old fashioned town of Tigre. Although you can do Tigre as a day trip, its old time glamour, naval museum, crafts market, and selection of newly renovated bars and cafes call for an overnighter or two.

Mar del Plata is the country’s premier beach resort, and a trip here is necessary if only for the quirky local pintoresco architecture. At Mar del Plata’s many beach resorts you can lounge by the waves all day long or head into the town center, especially the Plaza san Martin and the Cathedral de los Santos Pedros y Cecilia, with its beautiful stained glass windows. To soak in some authentic Argentinean culture, head to the town of San Antonio de Areco, a stronghold of gaucho (cowboy pants) fashion. The estancia (ranch) resorts here are more laid back, perfectly suited for riding, admiring the handiwork of the local artisans in the market, and the occasional exhibition at the local museum. All in all, the perfect tranquil holiday for a medical tourism visitor.
