What Does India Have That the US Does Not?

Quite simply, India has cheaper healthcare with no reduction in quality.  For example, the cost of a pacemaker installation starts at a low $1,250 and can go up to $6,500.  This range is still far cheaper than what could be expected in the US, whether you have health coverage or not.  With international accreditation quickly becoming more universal, more people are turning to medical tourism as a way of cutting the debt out of their lives.   

Is Medical Tourism Safe?

The concerns about the safety of medical tourism are valid.  There are many scams awaiting the uninformed and the naïve.  If you don’t do your research before you leave your home country, there is a high chance that you will be disappointed with the results.  I would advise anyone considering traveling to a foreign land for any sort of medical procedure to check the credentials of the doctor and the hospital as well as the culture of the country.  The true answer to the question “Is medical tourism safe?” will depend purely on the amount of research you put into your trip ahead of time.  A poorly planned vacation usually isn’t fun.  Even more so when health and wellness are involved. 

Health Vacations Can Actually Be Fun

I can’t deny it; exploring the world has a raw romantic appeal to me.  The concept of getting the healthcare I need while traveling around the world not only appeals to my need to multi-task but also gives me a great sense of achievement.  Stepping out of your comfort zone for a health vacation can be a scary proposition, but the rewards are many if you plan ahead and just have fun with it when you’re out in the markets of India or lazing on the beaches of the Philippines.
